Note | arrived Cincinnati 20 Jun 1848. At those times Cinn was the center and meeting place for emiGR.nts from Northern GER. Here they tried to find information, where to buy cheap land and start farming or they looked for woRK to earn the money theyneed ed to start a new life. HH stayed in Cinn. He found woRK at a sawmill which was owned by an Irishman. Here he learned to talk English but later he spoke more like the Irishman. From his earnings he could send money hom so his brothers couldcome in the spring of 1849. In Sept 1850 his parents, two sisters, youngest brother and GR.ndmother-in-law came via New Orleans. The Nuxolls lived at Covington, KY - now part of Cincinnati, just south of the OH River until 1855. In this yearthey moved to IL and started farming at GR.ek Creek, where already several families from Dinklage lived. In the 1880s, some of the HH Nuxolls 14 children moved westward and founded with others from GR.en Creek, IL to GR.encreek, ID in the NezPerce Indian Reser vation. |
Note | Since the early 1830s the number of emiGR.nts from Northern GER to North America had constantly GR.wn because there was little chance for most of the GR.wing population to get some land and nourish a family. Especially after a bad harvest in1845 i n most European countries and famine in 1846-1847, many "heuerleute" were forced to leave their home to keep their families alive. |
